W. Bro. Rick meets the PGM of Durham

W. Bro. Rick meets the PGM of Durham

Our Lodge Membership Officer elect, W.Bro. Rick Chilvers, has been busy visiting in County Durham, to find out how they run their Provincial Grand Steward’s Lodge. Rick is hoping to set up a Provincial Grand Steward’s Lodge for Shropshire. Cae Glas Lodge has been particularly well represented with active Provincial Grand Stewards in recent years with W.Bro. Ed Warner currently serving this year and W. Bro. Rick, and our current W.M., then Brother, Neil Bevan serving in 2015-16. The Provincial Grand Stewards can be recognised by their distinctive crimson aprons and collars.

First, Rick visited Rowlands Gill Lodge 4694 on Wednesday 7th June. At the meeting, R.W. Bro. Norman Eric Heaviside, the Provincial Grand Master for Durham presented a 60 year cert to W.Bro. Gibson.

Then on the 8th June Rick visited Gyrwy Lodge 9833 at the invitation of W.Bro. Derek Luke, who happens to be the secretary of the Durham Stewards lodge.

Rick visited his craft lodge in response to all the information he had sent about their Stewards Lodge. He is hoping to be invited to the Stewards Lodge in October.

It was only a 630 mile round trip, but worth every mile. W.Bro. Luke kindly put Rick up for the night as well.

Watch this space for news on Rick’s progress in setting up a new Provincial Grand Steward’s Lodge for Shropshire!

Cae Glas 300th Meeting – May 2017

12th May 2017 By hbadmin

Cae Glas 300th Meeting Station Bitter

Cae Glas Lodge enjoyed a full house for our 300th meeting on 4th May. Visitors outnumbered our members – with a fantastic 32 visitors form 12 lodges present! It was good to see a number of members from the former Aston Manor Lodge with us, and also a delegation, including the W.M., from Westminster Lodge in the Province of Cheshire, with whom cae Glas are arranging a ‘twinning’ and a formal annual reciprocal visit.

The Brethren enjoyed an excerpt from the minutes of the very first meeting of Cae Glas Lodge in 1974, delivered by Bro. Secretary, followed by a Third Degree ceremony for Bro. Allen undertaken by the Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Neil Bevan, with W. Bros. Dave Bramwell and Martin Wildman concluding the ceremony. The Wardens, Bros. James and Hickman, showed their prowess in demonstrating the full closing in the Third Degree. The evening also included the presentation of a Grand Lodge Certificate to Bro. T. Evans.

The evening concluded with a very enjoyable Festive Board at which every Brother present received a gift of a special commemorate bottle of Stonehouse Brewery Station Bitter (brewed by one of our members!). A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all – with the bar staying open until late as the Brethren continued to enjoy the fellowship long after the Festive Board had closed!

Th evening marked the end of our meetings before the Summer recess – but we still have the Preceptors Evening to look forward to on 25th May, at which the Provincial Grand Master will be present!

Cae Glas visit to Westminster Lodge 7532

19th April 2017 By hbadmin

An intrepid band of no less than eight members of Cae Glas Lodge, including the WM, IPM, Charity Steward, DC and Secretary headed up to Chester on the evening of 18th April to visit Westminster Lodge No 7532 at the impressive Masonic Centre in Christleton.

At the instigation of our IPM, we are establishing an annual reciprocal visit between the two lodges, which are of similar size and outlook, having already enjoyed informal visits between us for some time.

The brethren were treated to an informative lecture by W.Bro. Peter Booth, PPrSGW, entitled ‘Getting to Know your Lodge Room’, followed by a very enjoyable Festive Board – where the WM of Cae Glas was asked to respond on behalf of the visitors – seconds before we dined… Luckily, he had been tipped off that he might be asked, due to the strength of our visiting numbers, and, as a good Scout was prepared for the task (the first time he had been called upon to give the response)!

A special thanks must be added for the wine placed on the Cae Glas table from three Westminster brethren 🙂

Cae Glas also left with two raffle prizes – a bottle of whisky and an Easter egg!

We are looking forward to welcoming a good number of brethren from Westminster Lodge to our 300th meeting in May, and to continuing to forge friendships and a more formalised ‘twinning’ with the lodge, which is obviously in very good heart!

Unfortunately, we didn’t take any photographs, apart from the WM’s dinner – hence the photo of a very enjoyable steak and mushroom pie and chips…

7th April 2017 By hbadmin

The Worshipful Master, Wardens and Brethren of Cae Glas Lodge invite all Masons to come along and celebrate our 300th Meeting with us – in the Tercentenary Year of UGLE!

It should prove to be a fantastic night, hopefully with a good ceremony, and plenty to eat and drink and celebrate afterwards.
The dining fee isn’t too bad ether…so what’s not to like?

Have a quick look at the flyer – click here to view a pdf – or scroll down to view – and if you’d like to join us, just let W.Bro. Keith Arscott know, and he’ll be very pleased to book you in.

Please be quick though, as places are limited.

Thanks, I hope to see you there!

Cae Glas December Festival 2016

5th December 2016 By hbadmin

Enjoying the Festive Board
An atmospheric dining hall
Still here at 11.30pm…

A message from the Worshipful Master…

Just a very quick thank you to all those that supported the Cae Glas December Festival last week. A special thanks to those who very kindly donated prizes for the raffle and ‘scams’. Also, well done, and thank you to everyone that took part in the evening, both in the ceremonials upstairs in the lodge room, and downstairs at the festive board. Without your input and support Cae Glas wouldn’t be the vibrant and successful lodge that it is. You can click the images above to see them larger.

From a charitable point of view, the evening was a great success too.

You’ll be pleased to hear that we collected £78 of alms in the lodge room, and raised a further £515 at the festive board.

A total of £593! An excellent result, which I’m sure will please our Charity Steward!

In closing, if I don’t have the opportunity of meeting you again before Christmas,  I wish you and your families all the best for the festive period. I hope you have a wonderful break.

Once again, thank you all, for your support and enthusiasm, it’s very much appreciated.

With sincere and fraternal best wishes,

Keith
